Starting therapy can feel scary and intimidating. At first, it can feel embarrassing speaking to a perfect stranger and discussing your most vulnerable intimate thoughts and feelings. Taking the first step is sometimes the most challenging part. The most important thing to remember is that asking for help takes great courage!

If this is your first time engaging in therapy, it's completely normal to wonder,
"What am I supposed to say?"
"Will it be awkward?"
"Do I have to tell my whole life story?"
“Will the therapist judge me?”
The short answer?
No.
There's No Right Way to Start…..
You don't need to have the perfect explanation for why you're seeking therapy or walk in with goals for your sessions.
Some individuals come in knowing exactly what they want to work on and some people just don’t.
Others simply know that something doesn't feel right anymore.
All these things are okay.
The First Session Is Really Focused On Discussing Consents and Gathering Intake Information.
You and your therapist will discuss things like:
What brings you to therapy
Your current stressors
Your relationships
Your mental health history
Your strengths
What do you need or want to gain from your sessions
It is important to remember that therapy moves at your pace, and you will not be expected to share anything before you're ready.
You Do Not Have to Be Falling Apart To Engage In Therapy
One of the biggest myths that we hear a lot is that therapy is “only for people in crisis.”
The truth is that many individuals come to therapy because they want to! Individuals may want to work on
Feeling less anxious.
Improve relationships.
Set healthier boundaries with work, family and/ or friends.
Process difficult life experiences.
Build confidence.
Better understand themselves.
Therapy is just as much about growth as it is about healing.
Please Remember that Taking the First Step Is Often the Hardest Part!
Reaching out for support is a true act of courage. Asking for help means you've decided that your well-being matters. It is important to remember that starting something new can feel uncomfortable at first, but many people later say they wish they hadn't waited so long.
